Theological Library Cooperative of
How to find Books, eBooks, eJournals, DVDs, Videos, and Other Materials in the on-line catalog by using 11 search keys.1. Author – Scroll down and select “author” for method of search. Enter the last name first and then the first name and/or initial. Example: Jones, Peter If you find an exact match, a list of titles will be displayed. If you are unsure of the author's complete name or its spelling you can browse a list of author names. On the search screen enter the name you wish to search (i.e. Jones) and select "author" as the method of search. Hit the "Browse" key and a list of all the authors named "Jones" will be displayed. You can then click on the correct author which will put that name on the search page and you then hit enter to search for it. It is helpful to "browse" all authors by the last name because an author’s name may be entered more than one way in the catalog. You must search each way to find all works by the author.
Example:
Robertson, A.T. 2. Title – Scroll down and select “Title” for method of search. Enter the words of the title. Example: World Book Encyclopedia If you find an exact match, it will be displayed. You then click on the title and more complete information about it will be displayed. If no match was found, a note will come up telling you no results were found. Return to the search screen and search using the "Browse" key. This will bring up a list of similar titles. |

You can narrow down your search in a long list by finding a title that looks like it covers more precisely the subject you want and click on it to bring up more complete information about it. In the list of subjects assigned to that work click on a more precise subject heading. Or, you can return to the search screen and try the "Browse" key to bring up a list of similar subject headings to search through for a more exact subject. Example: Sin, Original 4. Key Words – Key words are 3 or more characters in the title, subject or note field of each material record. Be sure “Key Words” is selected as your method of search on the search screen and enter the word(s) you want to search. You can also do key word “Boolean” or “Truncation” searching. And, you can do more advanced “Boolean” or “Truncation” searching by using other search keys such as title or author.
